Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa on Wednesday presented a budget of N367.095, 083, 451bn to the state assembly for the 2019 fiscal year.
This is even as he assured Deltans of his commitment towards developing the state further come 2019 if voted into office for the second term.
Speaking to journalists during presentation of his 2019 Budget to the State House of Assembly, Okowa disclosed that in the last three years and a half, his administration had recorded successes in fiscal and macroeconomic stability, recalling that Delta State Government was beset with a revenue board and indebtedness to commercial banks, amounting to the sum of N98.62billion, while outstanding contractual obligations was N538, 601, 962, 421.50, and expressed joy that the exposure had been significantly reduced to about N228, 328, 360, 009 as the success were achieved through revalidation, reputation and reconciliation value for money exercise.
On the 2019 budget, the governor who presented a whopping estimate of N367, 095, 083, 451 billion, tagged “budget of sustainable growth”, disclosed that the amount comprises the sum of N157, 096, 029, 253 billion, or 42.79% for recurrent expenditure and 209, 999, 054, 198 billion or 57.21% for capital expenditure.
Noting with high interest measures for the internally generated revenue, the governor explained that with the sustenance of all the measures put in place to overhaul the revenue infrastructure, the State IGR for 2018 was expected to have improved, adding that signs were obvious that with a performance of 87% in the first half of the current year, the state government would continue to sustain and improve on the measures taken thus for especially as it was culminated in the increased revenue profile.
In his remarks, the speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori, however assured the governor of the speedy deliberation to the budget proposal to the benefit of well-meaning Deltans.
