The Permanent Secretary, FCT Administration, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa, has implored Journalists to shun the temptation to be biased and subjective in their reportage and avoid sensationalism.
Ohaa noted that journalists especially those having the FCT Administration as their primary beat to always be ethically correct while discharging their duties as the primary vehicle of news gathering and dissemination of the activities of the FCT Administration.
He gave the charge while speaking at a 2-Day Media Retreat of members of the FCT Minister’s Press Corps, at the weekend.
While reiterating that the media has a very major role to play if Nigerians are to build a nation of their dreams, Ohaa implored members of the Press Corps to seek for ways in which they can further collaborate with the FCT Administration to transform not just the FCT but Nigeria as a whole.
“It is quite impressive to observe that the Corps has over the years been able to organise and comport itself in such a manner that it has garnered for itself a reputation of being a responsible, trusted and dependable partner to the FCT Administration in its quest of developing for Nigeria a befitting Capital Territory.
“It is indeed a pleasure for me to address members of the FCT Minister’s Press Corps at its annual media retreat designed to enable the Corps do an appraisal of it’s functions and performance
“Your theme for this retreat which is “Impact of Change in the FCT Administration” is both timely and fitting coming against the backdrop of the current Administration successfully winding down.
He said:”It will therefore be safe to conclude that this theme is basically attempting an appraisal of the current FCT Administration in line with the change agenda of the Federal Government between 2015 and 2019.
“Ordinarily, as members of the fourth estate of the realm with the mandate to evaluate and assess the activities of government, it would be safer for me to let you do the assessing while we simply listen.
“However, as we all know, the Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari came to power on a mantra of change and this policy was by and large successfully implemented in the FCT under the leadership of Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, the FCT Minister.
“Here in the FCT, we applied a two-pronged approach and these were to block all leakages, avoid wastage and inspire an efficient and productive workforce.
“As close observers of the FCT Administration, I am sure that you agree that we have indeed closed up most of the avenues from which public funds were fleeced and also been able to re-engineer the bureaucratic structure of the SDAs so much so that they are now more efficient and alive to their responsibilities,” Ohaa stressed in his writen address read by the Chairman, FCT Minister’s Press Corps, Ikharo Attah.
