From James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta
The Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona has described increasing rate of youth unemployment across the country as responsible for the alarming rate of kidnapping, armed robbery and other social vices ravaging the society .
He, therefore, called on all levels of government in the country to rise to the challenge, by undertaking projects that would provide gainful employment for the youths in order to address the social problems.
The monarch, who bore his mind in Ijebu-Ode, at a colloquium organised as part of activities marking his 80th birthday anniversary, regretted that governments had been paying lip service towards tackling unemployment and its attendant menace.
On the agitation for the creation of Ijebu state, Oba Adetona noted that the Ijebu people have been short-changed, saying the creation of Ijebu State was long overdue.
“I am aware that Ijebu is the only one that has fulfilled all the criteria for the creation of States but we are being denied”, he submitted.
The Awujale however commended the Ogun state Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun for the various life-changing projects going on across the State, particularly in Ijebuland and also requested for more of such projects in his domain.
“We appreciate his various strides across the state and Ijebu, but we still want him to do more for us’’, the monarch said.
Responding, the state Governor, Senator Amosun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa, described the Awujale as a forthright monarch whose ideas, advice and suggestions have been beneficial to the state government.
“Kabiyesi is one person that scolds us all the time; he encourages the government all the time and directs us all the time”, the Governor said.
