Ogun State government through the Ministry of Budget and Planning has presented grants of 6 million naira to 12 Agricultural Cooperatives from 4 Local Government Areas of the State.

The grant which forms part of the Conditional Grant Scheme to Local Government Areas (CGS-LGA) under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) was in conjunction with the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on MDGs.

The Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mrs. Oluwande Muoyo while presenting cheques to the group, said the programme was another way of impacting on the people and the development of the agricultural sector towards providing more food.

According to her, the present administration in the State had since inception implemented various projects with beneficiaries cutting across different local governments, adding that the release of grant to Agricultural Cooperative Societies was a component of the 2012 CGS-LGA with Ado-Odo/Ota, Ewekoro, Obafemi Owode and Ogun Waterside benefitting from the scheme.

She enjoined the beneficiaries to ensure judicious use of the grants, including the ambulances and the project vehicles provided to the local governments.

Responding on behalf of the 12 Cooperative groups, Mrs. Sule Subola of Egbado Ajegunle Multipurpose Cooperative, Ewekoro appreciated the government for the gesture which would help to boost their businesses, promising effective use of the grants while her contemporary from God’s Grace Agric-Cooperative, Obafemi Owode, Mr. Kolawole Rasak assured that the farmers would work tirelessly to surpass government expectation.
