NVMA honours FCTA for dev’t of Vet healthcare

The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) has honoured the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for its outstanding contributions to the development of veterinary health Services in the FCT.
The Association at its 54th Annual Conference in Kano with the theme “ Veterinary Services as tools for advancing Economic Growth , food and National Security” acknowledged the efforts made by the Administration under the leadership of the Minister of FCT Muhammad Musa Bello in addressing challenges in the veterinary health services sector.
The NVMA’ President, Dr Godwin Abonyi commended the Administration for the recruitment of Veterinary Doctors,
which he said will help to strengthen the capacity of the Secretariat to efficiently perform its responsibilities.
He lauded the FCT Administration for partnering with the Association in the ongoing anti rabies exercise which is taking place in all the Area Councils of the FCT.
Responding, the Secretary for RDS, Nzekwe Stanley Ifeanyichukwu thanked the NVMA for the award, which he noted will further motivate the FCT Administration to do more in the development of the agricultural sector in its entirety.
Nzekwe explained that the employment of Veterinary Doctors, was not only aimed at providing gainful employment to youth, but also aid in bridging the gap as it pertains to the huge demand for competent Veterinary Health services in the FCT.
He added that the new doctors have undergone orientation and reorientation in line with the agenda of the present Administration predicated on dedication to duty for efficient service delivery.
He therefore reiterated the readiness of the Administration to continue to implement the necessary policy framework that will ensure the realization and revival of the agricultural sector.
According to him, “Our focus in the FCT Administration is to ensure that farmers get the much needed support both in the areas of access to critical agricultural inputs as well as strengthening our Agric Extension services to ensure that our farmers are well guided towards boosting food production.
“God willing as soon as the budget is released, we shall be moving into the field to support our farmers.”
Highpoints of the occasion was the presentation of the different categories of awards to various state governments as well as the delivery of lectures by resource persons. The FCTA’s Award was presented by the Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Numan Barau Danbatta.
