The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council on Monday rejected call by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the campaign against the Senator representing Edo South Senatorial district in the National Assembly, Matthew Urhoghide.
Leading protesters to the NUJ Secretariat on Monday, Edo state APC youth Leader, Valentine Aisuen, appealed to the leadership of the union to align with them to recall the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator who he calmed has lost torch with his Constituents.
Aisuen who spoke on behalf of the group, demanded for a retraction of the said motion, calling for the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhairi within the next 48 hours, else they will begin the process of Senator Urhoghide’s recall.
He also charged him to concentrate on his legislative duty and shun divisive tendencies, else they they will recall him.
“Please, we are here (NUJ) to tell him to withdraw that motion. And we want the support of the NUJ to help us pass the message to him”.
“We are given him 48 hours to withdraw that impeachment motion on notice otherwise, the process of recall we be starting immediately.
“The people standing before you are all across party divide. He should have called us for a town hall meeting. We consult, but not for him to have personally move a motion of such magnitude.
But, the state Secretary of NUJ, Comrade Alemma Aliu-Ozioruva, vehemently opposed the call, saying that the union will not queue behind the misconceived choreography by the sobbing crowed who rally support for President Muhammadu Buhari.
He emphasized that the NUJ is socially responsible to report the truth on any situation without any bias in favour of individuals or institutions.
Our Correspondent reports that Senator Matthew Urhoghide had been on the eye of the storm since he moved a motion to begin the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the sum of $496 million for the procurement of fighter jets before seeking legislative approval.
The NUJ Scribe said: “How can the NUJ join them. That is is a misinformed position. The best we can do is to help them with the report. We cannot join them in their agitation”.

on behalf of the leadership of the union, urged them not to allow hoodlums hijack the protest which he claimed was their fundamental rights
“What you are doing is your right and we on our part, we act as the link between the government and the given. We promise you that we are going to use all our Media outfit to make the world know”, he said.
A member of group who identified himself as Mr. James Wisdom, said he was joined the group because they said the lawmaker has erred.
Asked whether he knows the purpose of the protest, he said “I do not know, but, I just follow them.
Speaking further on his relationship with the embattled Senator, he said: “they told him the man did what he was not supposed to do that is why I am here (NUJ)”, he said.
