The Director-General/Chief Executive (DG/CE) of the National Teachers Institute (NTI), Dr. Aminu Ladan Sharehu, on Thursday officially performed the Ground Breaking ceremony of the NTI Staff Housing Project, Issa Community, in Jere area of Kaduna.
The Housing project, which is on vast hectares of land, along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway, is in line with the vision of the DG and the Executive management team, of providing accessible and affordable Housing for the members of Staff of the Institute.
In his speech at the ceremony, the Director-General of the Institute said the Housing project is in realization of the cardinal role of staff well-being in guaranteeing organizational effectiveness that the present leadership of the Institute came up with Five Strategic policy thrust tailored at moving the Institute to becoming a first-class organization, providing effective service delivery to stakeholders.
It would be called that the Federal Government is also pro-active on the issue of housing to reduce the 17 million housing deficit in Nigeria; therefore, the ceremony of NTI Staff Housing Project by the Institute’s management, according to the DG, couldn’t have come at a better time than now.
The Director-General observed that, in this part of the world, workers, after many years of dedicated service still face harassment of landlords as a result of their low and irregular monthly pensions, which cannot promptly meet their rent obligations.
He said this informed the Institute’s management decision to partner with an Estate Development Company, Nurul-Suraj Nigeria Limited, to work together in providing affordable housing accommodation to NTI staff, to be paid on monthly basis.
“As at today, over 200 staff of the Institute have keyed into the housing scheme. They are not only land owners but very soon, through convenient monthly deductions from salaries, they are going to have decent accommodation of their own”, he stated.
The DG/CE OF NTI assured all stakeholders involved in the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) of the Institute’s commitment to supporting the project for the well-being of the staff.
Stakeholders at the Ground Breaking Ceremony also poured series of encomiums on the Director-General and the Executive Management Team for their foresight and bold steps.
Traditional leaders and security agencies at the event promised to cooperate with the NTI and make the Housing Estate a safe haven for all its habitants.
The high points of the event were the unveiling of the Housing Estate Signed Post, dedicated to the ever hard-working Director-General, tagged: “Dr. Aminu Ladan Sharehu Staff Housing Estate”.
