National Teachers Institute (NTI) Director General Professor Garba Dahuwa Azare has said that the institute is collaborating with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) to implement the Commonwealth Certificate for Teacher, ICT, integration in the country.
According to him, the programme is aimed at preparing teachers for ICT integration into teaching and learning in Nigerian schools.
Azare made the disclosure during the flag-off ceremony of the 2017 edition of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) monitoring and Evaluation of Academic Standards in the NCE/ DLS study centres in Northeast, South West and South East Zones.
The NTI DG further added that the Teacher Education in Sub-Saharan Africa, TESSA, is rolling out a massive open online course for Teacher Educators on 30th October,2017.
“ This aimed at promoting active teaching and learning, demonstrating how to incorporate ICT tools and Open Education Resources OERS in supporting students’ learning, identifying ways of integrating TESSA, OERS into teaching and exploring as well as evaluating other OERS repositories.
“ The institute carries out various measures aimed assuring quality and that is why the institute is willing at all times to support an exercise such as this,” he said.
It would be recalled that a similar exercise by NCCE was successfully held last year in the North Central, part of North East and Northwest zones.
In his remarks, NCCE Executive Secretary, Professor Bappah Aliyu Muhammad who congratulated NTI for the successful conduct of the similar exercise in North east, North Central and north West zones last year said efforts are put in place to ensure quality teacher production by the commission.
Ondo State Coordinator of the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria, Adesina Akande said NTI’s programmes contributed positively on educational development in the country.
Director School Services who represented Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, at the event said the introduction of DLS programme in teacher education is a laudable initiative.
