Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has challenged the state’s contingent to the 7th National School sports Festival taking place in Otukpo, Benue State to work towards coming out tops at the competition. Obiano who was at the team’s Games Village on Monday night to see how they were faring. He cheered them up ahead of the commencement of hostilities while he assured them of optimum support.
The governor who was represented by Jude Nwafor, the Permanent Secretary in the Anambra Ministry of Sports said the government and people of Anambra State were already excited that the state was top on the medals table after the opening ceremony. Anambra won gold in the March Pass ahead of Niger and Jigawa in the festival tagged “Mark of Excellence”.
Obiano said that the state were giving priority to school sports and would stop at nothing to ensure they succeed, adding that they approved the participation of the team in as much as 19 games, hence the large contingent.
He encouraged them to be obedient to their coaches and guidance as people back home were expecting to hear about their good performances. “I am here to see you on behalf of Governor Willie Obiano who is particularly interested in your welfare.
“He is happy with the early success achieved so far in Otukpo and wants to assure you that he is behind you, the government and people of Anambra want you to do better than the best you have achieved which is third position. Please work hard to come first this time and at worst second, we are praying for you and are taking adequate care, your parents are waiting for your success stories,” he said.
Anambra were third at the 6th edition hosted by Kwara State behind Cross River and Lagos who were first and second respectively.
