The Nigerian Society of Engineers, NCE, said it is partnering with Yobe state government to ensure that engineering works awarded to contractors in the state meets standard quality.
The state chairman of the society in Yobe state, Engr. Umara Mustapha stated this yesterday during a press briefing with newsmen in Damaturu, the state capital, to mark the commencement of the 2017 engineering week activities in the state.
He said its members visits engineering projects in the state to ascertain that contractors handling the contracts are qualified, competent to ensure that they deliver jobs that meets the test of time and ensure that quack contractors are either stopped from continuing with the job and, in certain cases of faulty jobs, sanctioned.
Activities mapped out for the week, he said, includes trips to engineering projects in the state, public lecture, career guidance talks and quiz competition to selected secondary schools, press briefing and ceremony for swearing in the executive council, and induction of new members into the society.
All these activities, he said, are aimed, among other things, at meeting up the mission statement of the Nigerian society of engineers that includes provision of quality service to enhance professional competence and development of its members at all times, collaborate with, influencing and providing quality advice to the various arms of government, industry, commerce, the academia and the society at large so as to uplift the country as a whole.
He pointed out that the membership of the society has grown from 75 to over 150 as at date, that has rapport with the government and from time to time, forward observations, provide suggestions on issues related to engineering.
