NSCDC arrests 3,000 suspected criminals, recovers N38.7m in Niger

The Niger State Command of Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has said to haS arrested over 3,000 suspected criminals and recorded 3,066 cases while a sum of N38, 789, 570.00 million was recovered in the last one year during its operations.
State Commandant, Mr George Edem made the disclosure at a press briefing in Minna on the Command’s stewardship in the last one year, saying that it has maintained a 24 hours surveillance on critical infrastructure across the 25 local governments of NigerState as two of its personnel died in active service during the year under review.
Edem explained that those arrested were in the area of illegal miners, pipeline vandals, AEDC installation vandals, suspected kidnappers and suspected robbers among others who were handed over to the appropriate agencies for prosecution and counseling.
Commandant Edem said that the command has received no fewer than 2,753 complaints across the state which includes; theft, assault, trespass, burglary, Dept’s, culpable homicide, impersonation, character deformation and others in the year under review.
He further disclosed that in 2019 the command through its Intelligence and Investigation Department as well as Peace and Conflict Management Unit recovered a sum of N38, 789, 570.00 and other valuables items like 3 vehicles, 8 motorcycles, 3 tricycles, 1 AK 47 riffle with 26 live ammunitions and 1 pump Action Riffle with 3 cartridges.
He noted that his command participated in all the Joint Security Taskforce operations especially in Zamfara, Kaduna, FCT and Niger states respectively so as to enhanced lasting peace in the state and country hence the synergy.
Edem however appreciated the support and assistance from the headquarters and assured the personnel of more capacity training this year for effective and efficient performance.
He also commended the Niger state government who have always show their adequate support to the command in times of needs most especially by issuing certificate of occupancy for land to build its barracks.
Edem decried of inadequate funding to enable it purchase more vehicles so as to response faster to distressed calls in the 25 local governments, adding the made available were judiciously utilized to the benefit of the command.
