NSA absent as Buhari meets service chiefs

By Lawrence Olaoye

The National Security Adviser (NSA) was conspicuously absent yesterday when President Muhammadu Buhari held a special consultative meeting with the service chiefs.
This meeting at the Presidential Villa came barely 24 hours after the President promised an aggressive clampdown on the Boko Haram insurgents in coming weeks.
Although there was no official reason for Monguno’s absence at the meeting but this may not be unconnected with his current face-off with the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari.
Monguno had last week accused Kyari of disobeying President’s order and thereby frustrating goverment’s efforts at routing the insurgents and ending criminalities in the country.
Those at the meeting were Abayomi Olonisakin, chief of defence staff; Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff; Sadique Abubakar, chief of air staff; and Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, chief of naval staff and Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
The service chiefs didn’t brief State House correspondents after the meeting .
There have however, been an upsurge in Boko Haram attacks in recent weeks .
