The National Population Commission in collaboration with the Ministry of Health has officially launched the 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey NDHS report.
The lunching of the programme which took place at the Presidential Lodge Birnin Kebbi aims at state level dissemination.
Delivery his Key note address, the Federal Commissioner in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States Dr. Haliru Bala said that the programme is the six demographic health survey conducted in Nigeria under the National Population Commission adding that since 1990 the survey provided up-to date estimate on basic demographic and health indication in the entire country.
He explained further that a total of 41,821 women age 15-49 in 40,427 households while 13,311 men age 15-59 in one third of the sampled households were interviewed, representing a response rate of 99% women and 99% of men.
He added that the commission is proud to say that new innovative approach were used in the conduct of the 2018 NDHs the Anthropometric process was improve to collect high quality height and weight measurement four children and women.
“A new biomarker checklist was introduced to ensure that no important task were missed, and interviewer also returned to households to re-measure children for flagged cases and random re-measure for data quality,” he added.
In his welcome address, the State Director of National Population Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Gulumbe said that the 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey was implemented by the National Population Commission in collaboration with the National Malaria Elimination programme of the Federal Ministry for Health.
He said that the funding for the 2018 NDHS was provided by the United States Agency for international Development (USAID) Global fund, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) United Nations population fund and WHO.
Gulumbe who stated further that ICF provided technical assistance through the DHS program, adding that a USAID funded project that provides support and technical assistance in the implementation of population and health survey in the countries worldwide.
