The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Cross River North senatorial bye-election Campaign Committee, Senator Kashim Shettima, who is the immediate past Governor of Borno State, yesterday assured that the party will leave no stone unturned in ensuring victory in the election.
Speaking yesterday at the party National Secretariat in Abuja during the inauguration of the campaign committee by the Secretary of the party, John James Akpanudoedehe, Shettima said politics is local, adding that the APC candidate is enormously popular within his constituency.
He said the campaign council will work assidously to see that APC wins the December 5th Senatorial election in Cross River North, adding “Politics is a game of numbers; your ability to mobilize support and our candidate is an erudite scholar and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria who had contested for the Governorship of Cross River State.
“He is well accepted by his people and will work to ensure that we crown his efforts with success.”
Commending the party’s interim leadership led by Mai Mala Buni, Shettima said “So far so good, they are working to reposition the party and we have a moral obligation to support them.”
“On behalf of my colleagues in the campaign council, we wish to register our profound gratitude for the honour and trust vested on us by appointing us to see to the victory of our party in the upcoming election.
“Our duty is to put in our utmost best to see to the victory of the party in the upcoming election. Power belongs to God, other permutations on who becomes the Governor will come to light in the fullness of time, but now the onus on us is to put in our best and I can assure you that, with the caliber of people like our erudite Minister of Labour (Festus Keyamo), Jeddy Agba (Minister of State for Power) and our former Treasurer of the party (etc).
“Rest assured that we will swing into action, we will do our best and by the grace of God, we shall come home with victory.”
While charging the committee to do a perfect job in Cross River North Senatorial contest, the secretary of the party said it is not often that the party sets up a National Campaign Council for a Senatorial election, pointing out that it shows the importance the party attaches to the election.
He said “We already have the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency in our bag; where our brother, Hon. Alex Egbona, Ph.D., is serving his people very well. So this election is ours for the taking.
“The importance of having an overwhelming majority in the Senate for our party cannot be over emphasized. This will deepen our in-road as a party into Cross River State.
“Let me use this opportunity to advise our leaders to leave the 2023 Governorship permutations aside, and throw everything into this election. The victory can only help the 2023 Project for whoever God chooses, as power, after-all, power belongs to God.
“You all are tested hands in this business, so I will not tell you how to do it. All we need is victory, but within the ambit of law.
“On this note, may I, on behalf of the National Chairman of the APC CECPC, H.E. Hon. Mai Mala Buni, hereby inaugurate this Campaign Council.”
The Campaign Council Members are: Senator Kashim Shettima, who is the Chairman, Festus Keyamo (SAN), Goddy Jedy Agba, Anthony Ogah Dimo, Bala Mohammed Gwagwarwa, Joshua Akpan and Stella Oketete, who will serve as Secretary of the team.
