The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to allocate more funds to education or lose the support of youth from the region.
The group also described as meagre allocation for education in its 2018 budget appropriation submitted to the National Assembly.
President of NYCN, Comrade Isa Abubakar expressed displeasure on the education budget, while fielding questions from newsmen in Kaduna after awarding a foremost philanthropist, Engineer Musa Nimrod with the title of Garkuwan Matasa Arewa at the Arewa House in Kaduna.
He said that President Buhari whom they contributed immensely in his emergence as Nigeria’s leader in 2015, is derailing and must retrace his steps or be abandoned for someone who will do better.
Commenting on the performance of the 19 Northern Governors, he said they have failed woefully in their mandates, adding that come 2019, the youth will shop for better alternatives.
He described the Almajiri scourge as a shame to the North, blaming the political elite from the region as deliberate supporters of the de-humanising trend.
“They deliberately refuse to address the scourge because they use same products of Almajiri as willing political tools,” he added.
On why Engineer Nimrod deserved the award, he said he is an example of what others need to be in empowering of youth for a greater Nigeria.
