A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Noble Women Movement for Buhari and Osinbajo (NWM4BO) yesterday, in the nation’s capital city commended the new Patient Bill of Right recently signed into law by Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo.
The group said the bill demonstrates in clear terms the present Administration’s resolve to reform the nation’s beleaguered healthcare system for the good of all.
This position was canvassed in a press statement jointly issued by the group Chairperson, Dame Judith Amaechi and the Director of Publicity, Dr. Rachael Ahmadu, and made available to our correspondent in Abuja.
The statement stated that the bill also demonstrates the progress being made in making qualitative healthcare service available to all Nigerians irrespective of their class or political affiliations.
“The bill initiated by the Nigerian Consumer Protection Council, covers the consumers or citizens relationship with insurers, health plans and everyone else in the healthcare systems. It contains basically health insurance reforms which it tries to cover holistically for the common good of health consumers.
“This is in fulfilment of one of the campaign promises of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. The goal of the Patient Bill of Rights is to put Nigerians consumers back in charge of their health coverage and care. It contains and come with certain obligations to take an active role in making the systems work smoothly.
“The Patient Bill of Rights was enacted and developed with the expectation that hospitals and health institutions would support these rights in the interest of delivering effective service to patients without any man-made hindrances,” the statement added.
Speaking on the ongoing campaign of calumny or bitterness against the president, the group maintained that this sustained onslaught against the present administration of Buhari cannot alter the outcome of 2019 general elections, stressing that no nation change a government with hate and malice.
“Just as it has been observed in some quarters, Nigeria is a nation bedevilled by calamity and the only advocacy by some of her citizens is that the president should resign or be voted out. Nothing is more sickening and illogical than this.
“Sincere citizens of any nation rally around themselves to solve problems, but in Ngeria people gather in mosques and churches plotting the removal of a constitutional elected president. The man you are so maliciously impulging has his own supporters who are doing everything to return their candidate. Instead of opposition’s surreptitious plot, why not bring forth a candidate, polish him and sell his candidacy.
“You don’t change a government with hate and malice, you change government with tact and strategies. These outdated strategies of using religion and ethnicity cannot fetch any electoral values,” the statement affirmed.
The group therefore called on the opposition parties to resign to fate in the matter of President Muhammadu Buhari, noting that the president is not seeking office to promote any agenda other than his sworn oath of regaining the nation from the claw of usurper and looters.
