From Olanrewaju Lawal, Ilorin
Kwara State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said only the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party can declare who the winners are in the recently held congresses in the state, including the governorship primaries.
The party therefore insisted that no official result has been released yet on the primaries.
Chairman of the party, Iyiola Oyedepo, said the state chapter of the PDP lacks the power to recognize any candidate except the ones duly announced as winners by the NWC.
“In recent times the mass media and the general public have been worried on the outcome of the primaries of our party which were held between the 29th day of November and 11th day of December 2014,” Oyedepo said in a statement he personally issued in Ilorin on Thursday morning.
“I have however restrained myself from issuing out the result of the primaries because it is not my duty to do so. Usually the people that came from Abuja to conduct the primaries are to report to the National Secretariat.
“The result of the election can only be made public after the endorsement of the National Working Committee. The issue of recognizing one candidate or the other does not arise as it is in the power of the NWC to do so. Those that are hungry to know our candidates should only wait a little while as the national secretariat will soon make available to the general public all winners of the primaries conducted in Kwara State.”
Oyedepo added that “any other contrary message should be regarded as unauthorized.”
