A governorship aspirant in Kogi State, Dr. Joseph Ameh Erico has said that no governor in the country should be eulogised for paying salaries, maintaining that if a governor is taking salaries, then public servants must also have their wages on time.

Dr. Ameh said this yesterday shortly after he collected his governorship nomination and Expression of Interest forms at the Peoples Democratic Party’s Headquarters, Wadata House, Abuja.

The governorship aspirant said that both the state executives and workers live and buy in the same market, arguing that a state executive should not be praised for paying salaries because it is their entitlement.

Dr. Ameh, who disclosed that he has over 9,000 work force and pays their salaries regularly, assured that if elected governor of Kogi State  he will ensure that all the loopholes leading to delay or inadequate funds for full payment of salaries will be eliminated.

In his words,, “Salary is not what a governor should be praised for. It is compulsory. A  man works for you he must be paid. If a man should not be paid, he should not work for you.

“If the governor himself should take salary, it means all should take because governor is not the only one that has mouth to eat”, he said.

Also fielding questions on his plans to improve on the economic fortunes of the state, he continued, “Where we have problem is wastages of resources. There is no structure in Kogi State to make people happy.

“Kogi State is endowed with natural resources. Kogi State is a historic state, the first capital state in Nigeria. We have trees that are medicinal.

“We  have coal in Kogi We can generate power to supply to various parts of Nigeria. We have iron ore and we” he said.

Ameh pledged that he will explore coal deposits in the state to generate electricity, explore iron and other mineral deposits in the state which will activate the economy and create jobs.

He said that the inadequacies of the present governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello has made it easier for him (Ameh) to floor all other candidates at the polls following his flawless record of discipline, philanthropy and job creation.

According to him, “In Kogi state, we  have a peculiar case where salaries are not paid, people are being oppressed, a lot have lost their lives, nothing is happening in the agro and health care, education departments.

“Kogi State is known for negativities. Now we are champions of negative things. We are not champions of positive things. That is one minus that is holding the present government hostage. That is the weapon I have against the present government.

“It shall be a walk over against anybody that may emerge, not even Yahaya Bello. I will win with a wide margins

The aspirant, who claimed to be an authority in security, condemned the Ruga establishment of the present adminstration, insisting that cattle rearing is a private business and whomever intends to go into such trade must procure the necessary land, pay necessary titles and carry out the business according to the laws of the land.

He said, “If you are doing business you must be prepared to do it. You can not do your business at the expense of mine. When I want to do business in Katsina State, I have to prepare for it, I have to pay for my shop and display my goods and sell and make my money.

“There is no where you have free land or free anything anywhere. If you want to do business, get you business location, pay government fees, pay the landlord and you then do you business. That is how business is done all over the world, Nigeria should not be an exception”.

Ameh is the first candidate from Kogi to pick his nomination/expression of interests form.

The PDP pegged their nomination form at N20 million while the Expression of Interest Form is N 1million. The sale of forms will end in July 24.
