The letter of resignation tendered by the President of the Nigeria Medical Association of Nigeria, Dr. Kayode Obembe has been rejected by association’s national office committee.
Chairman of NMA in Yobe state, Dr. Adamu A. Umar, disclosed this to our reporter, who called him on phone to seek his view on the development.
He told our reporter that the resignation of the President came at the heel of an emergency delegates’ meeting, that took place at Vines Hotel, Abuja, has put the association in an in-house crisis following the purported resignation of the association’s President.
“It is true that NMA is in an in-house crisis, following the purported resignation of the President, Dr. Kayode Obembe, after the emergency delegates’ meeting that took place at Vines Hotel, Abuja; however, I want to assure you that his resignation letter has since been rejected by the national officer’s committee, after a meeting the held with members of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria yesterday, at the council Headquarters, in Abuja”, he said.
He added that efforts are now on to call another delegates meeting, to consider the positions and possibly call-off the strike, in line with the advice by elders.
He, however, regretted that the association’s members are truly not happy that the strike is being prolonged, blaming the development on the non-commitment on the part of federal government.
