Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Bauchi state chapter is to collaborate with Bauchi state orphanage home and day care center on health challenges and children upbringing.
The Chairman of the NMA, Dr. Muhammed Yusuf made the declaration yesterday, while donating food and other materials to Hafsatu Yuguda Memorial Orphanage Home and Day Care Center, Bauchi state low cost house, as part of making the physicians’ week celebration in Bauchi.
“We also pledged to collaborate with the orphanage, by sensitising the member of public to particularly the well to ensure that children in orphan homes are well catered for”, he said.
The NMA also pledged to provide free medical services to the orphans and vulnerable children in the state.
Speaking, the Vice Chairman of the association, Dr. Mohammed Bashir, explained that apart from “our primary mandate of uplifting the health, we also have corporate social responsibility to help our mandate,” adding that the health and development of the child is important to physicians.
“We call on well-meaning Nigerians to put hands together to help individually and collectively, children that have been abandoned, neglected or orphaned,” Bashir said.
Also speaking, the Executive chairman of the Bauchi state Orphans and vulnerable Agency Hajiya Bahija Mahmud, said that the over one percent being deducted from the salary of civil servants in the state to cater for the welfare of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC)in the state has been justified.
Mahmud, who was represented by the Head Communication and Mobilization of the OVC in the state, Mallam Hussaini Yusuf Lifiti, said the agency emphasized impacting skills in the children rather than services, calling on well-meaning citizens to always remember the OVC,
He lamented that children one to 17 years were becoming restive because they are not being properly guided by parents and guardians.
“They need to be educated. Most of them are wayward because they know the advantage of education so we need to redirect them in order to carry them along.
“I urged all to carry the enlightenment campaign to all communities because if we do not redirect their imagination, the children would end up being a menace to the society”, he stated.
