The Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF) yesterday said the first Hon. Timothy Nsirim National Open Judo Championships was scheduled to hold between Aug.6 to Aug.8 in Edo state.
The Secretary General of the federation, Amechi Akawo said in Abuja that the competition was organised for both junior and senior athletes in various categories.
He however said all states judo association should get ready to compete at the tourney stating that the competition was also designed to select athletes for the national team.
“I am directed to invite your State Judo Associations to compete at the first Hon. Timothy Nsirim national open judo championship for junior and senior scheduled to hold on Aug. 6 to Aug. 8 at the indoor sports hall complex national sport commission, zone 2 Benin.
“The championship is designed as part of selection process for the national senior and junior teams towards participation in the world forthcoming championships”, he said.
He said the various categories for senior male are 55kg, 60kg, -66kg, -73kg, -81kg, -90kg, -100kg, +100kg, female are, 44kg, -48kg, -52kg, 57kg, -63kg, -70kg, -78kg and + 78kg.
The modified junior male categories are -35kg, -40kg, -45kg, -50kg and -55kg while female are -28kg, -32kg, -36kg, -40kg and -44kg.
The secretary-general however debunked the rumour that the duly elected and sworn-in president of the federation, Timothy Nsirim has been sacked by the resolutions of a purported board.
He however said the media should disregard any information by Dr. Musa Oshodi parading himself as the new president of the federation stating that Nsirim was officially elected and sworn-in by NSC.
