Kaduna Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has condemned in strong terms the latest communal violence which claimed so many lives in Kasuwan Magani, kujama Local Government Areas, and the subsequent reprisal attacks in some parts of Kaduna town.
This was contained in a statement signed by the chapter’s chairman, Alhaji Bashir Chedi, in Kaduna yesterday.
In the statement, the chapter called for peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding among the residents of Kaduna State adding“
that people should be able to tolerate each other despite the religious and ethnic differences among them”.
The chapter praised the prompt action taken by the state governor, Mal. Nasir El Rufai for immediately ensuring that security personal took charge of the situation and also commended him for the timely imposition of a curfew that stopped the spread of the violence.
It also strongly supported the Governor’s pronouncement to prosecute any culprit found involved in causing this crisis.
The PR chapter also stressed the need for religious Clerics, Traditional/Opinion Leaders, NGO’s and Youth Leaders to intensify efforts towards the preaching of peaceful coexistence in the state and the country in general. And to also caution the public on the danger of spreading fake news, hate speech and rumours through social media.
The Kaduna NIPR said it will in conjunction with others stakeholders come up with relevant peace advocacy programmes to further sensitize the public especially residents of the state on peaceful association and mutual understanding among the people.
