Nigeria is expected to have normal-to-earlier-than-normal onset of rainfall, and early cessation date in the year 2018.
Places like Sokoto, Bauchi, Kaduna, Lafiya, Makurdi, Ado-Ekiti, Akure, Calabar and Eket are expected to experience early onset of rainfall while places like Yelwa, Bida, Abuja, Iseyin, Abeokuta, Lagos Island, Ikeja and Umuahia are likely to experience late onset.
Other parts of the country will likely have normal onset. Presenting the 2018 Seasonal Rainfall Prediction, (SRP) in Abuja, Director General of NiMet, Professor Sani Abubakar Mashi, revealed that the 2018 rainfall season will start in early March over the Southern coastal cities of Nigeria and end in December over the coast.
He said the onset date will likely change as we move northwards with areas around Maiduguri, Nguru and Potiskum predicted to have onset from June 1st. A normal length of season is expected with normal
