Former Head of State and national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari has said that with the enormous resources of the country, Nigerians deserves a better deal.
Speaking at a rally to formally receive some prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that dumped their party for the APC in Lokoja, General Buhari pointed out that Nigerians cannot continue to wallow in abject poverty in the midst of plenty.
He added that they were irrevocably committed in taking the country to higher heights by effectively managing the country’s enormous resources when the opposition takes over the reins of governance in the next general elections.
According him, the APC was poised to effect positive change through purposeful leadership and transparency, stressing that provision of qualitative education, health care delivery system, security and water would be given priority by the APC led government.
General Buhari therefore stressed the need for the party faithful to get their voters card to enable them elect candidates of their choice in the coming polls, even as he enjoined them to protect their votes.
He maintained that concerted efforts must be made in putting a halt to the current stealing of public funds with reckless abandon, pointing out that the country is rich enough to take care of the needs of the citizenry.
Also speaking, former Vice President and national leader of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, said the APC was committed to a better Nigeria, adding that they were poised to effect change at the state and national level.
He called on the teeming members of the party not to cast their votes and go to sleep, urging them to protect their votes to avoid the repeat of the past where they were rigged out by the opposition party.
He further posited that with determination and commitment, the APC would send the PDP into political wilderness next year, even as he called on the supporters of the party to be steadfast.
The National Chairman of the party and former governor of Edo State, John Oyegun, described the APC as the fastest growing political party, saying they would not toy with the future of Nigerians if elected to power next year.
He said the decamping of some prominent leaders of PDP in the state was a vote of no confidence on the present administration, and urged the members of the party in the state to complete the assignment by sending PDP packing in the next governorship poll.
He added that the APC was determined to take the state to the good old days, saying the APC led government in Kogi State would accord payment of primary school teachers and council workers top priority.
Former governor of Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu in a remark, described the decamping of the former PDP chieftains as a political tsunami, saying the task of rescuing the state from misrule was a collective effort.

Among those that dumped the PDP for APC are former acting governor, Clarence Olafemi, former state chairman of the party, John Dawn, some serving lawmakers from the state assembly and former council chairmen, House of Assembly members among others.
