The Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) yesterday said it has elevated 3700 officers across the federation.
Some of the most senior officers decorated yesterday by the Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, at the headquarters of the service in Abuja, include 9 Controller of Prisons (CP) to the rank of Assistant Controller-General (ACG), 5 Deputy Controller of Prisons (DCP) to the rank of Controller of Prisons (CP), 3 Assistant Controller of Prisons (ACP) to Deputy Controller of Prisons (DCP).
Others include: 1 Chief Superintendent (CSP) to the rank of Assistant Controller of Prisons (ACP), 1 Deputy Superintendent (DSP) to the rank of the rank of Superintendent (SP), 1 Superintendent (SP) to the rank of Chief Superintendent (CSP), 1 Assistant Superintendent (ASP1) to the rank of Deputy Superintendent, and 1 Assistant Superintendent (ASP11) to the rank of Assistant Superintendent (ASP1).
The minister, who was represented by th Director Citizens and Business, Abubakar Koko, said the officers were promoted based on merit.
He charged them to work assiduous to lift the name of the service.
Similarly, the Controller-General of the Service, Zakari Ibrahim said the promotion was an added responsibility for the newly promoted officers and urged them to always distinguish themselves.
He said the Prisons is undergoing serious transformation, urging the newly promoted officers to key in to the transformation agenda of the present administration so as to upgrade the country’s prisons.
Responding on behalf of the newly decorated officers, Stella Orisakwe, assured that the officers will do their best to uplift the service, saying that the promotion will spur them to do more.
