Nigeria is set to host the 2020 edition of the Africa Continent Spelling Bee Competition from November 18 to 22, 2020.
The Coordinator of the Nigeria Spelling Bee Competition Initiative, Abdulsalam Ibrahim, disclosed this while speaking to the media in Kaduna yesterday.
According to him, 210 participants and officials are expected to converge in the country during the four day competition.
Abdulsalam Ibrahim added that the first edition of the competition was held in South Africa while Kenya and Uganda followed suit.
He disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Education is the technical partner of the competition to ensure that best standard and practices are maintained.
The Coordinator further disclosed that the aim of the competition is to encourage the learning of English language among Nigerian students.
“In the national Competition that was held last year in the country, the first winner in the Senior Secondary School section got a one million naira scholarship, while the second and third positions got N500,000 and N300,000 scholarship respectively.
“Also, the Junior Secondary School winner last year got N500,00 scholarship,” he said.
