Arugungu International Fishing Festival, the Nigeria Shippers Council has donated N1m to Abubakar Yari who won the fish with 78kg, while N750,000 to Yahyah Magaye who came second with 75kg and N500,000 to Maiwake Sani from Silami in Sokoto State with 70kg and came third.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the closing ceremony of the 25th Arugungu International Fishing Festival held at Arugungu weekend, the Executive Secretary of the Council Dr. Hassan Bello said the gesture is to motivate the fishermen and farmers as is the only remedy to rescue the younger ones.
“The contribution is part of the company support towards promoting tourism and culture, we the Shippers Council where we worked on waterways, we salute the Governor Bagudu, Emir of Arugungu and the entire people of kebbi State for their sacrifice and success of the event,” he added.
Responding, the Kebbi State Governor, Senator Atiku Abubakar Bagudu assured the people of Arugungu that his administration will continue to support the festival and promote the tourism industry in the state.
Also speaking, Emir of Arugungu, Alhaji Smaila Mera thanked President Muhammad Buhari, Senate President, Ministers and other Governor from various states for gracing the occasion .
