Sokoto state governor, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko yesterday said the prevailing security situation in the country would soon be a thing of the past.
The governor, who acknowledged that, though the spate of insurgency act has forced citizens to ask questions about their safety, however, admonished Nigerians not to let their hope for better Nigeria be dashed.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony of five Hilux vehicles to the state police command by MTN Foundation Security Support Project held at Government House in Sokoto, the governor said security is the duty of each and every one of us.
“You don’t need to arrest criminal but your effort in providing useful information to the relevant authorities’ matters a lot hence it could help in arresting the menace. And with such support, we can collectively overcome the insecurity situation in the country,” he explained.
The governor also urged for a robust synergy between the security agencies and the public in ensuring the safety of the lives and property.
He, however solicited for better equipment for the security agencies, adding that, “We must work hard to ensure the security of lives, no more excuses. We must equip our security agencies to enable them be effective and efficient.”
Speaking earlier, the Director of the Foundation, Hajiya Asha Sadauki, said the donation is part of their corporate social responsibility and efforts to improve security in the country.
She further said that Foundation has expended N10 billion in supporting security nationwide.
