Nigeria’s U21 Volleyball male team, yesterday defeated their Cameroonian counterpart yesterday.
Nigeria began her quest to glory as the U21 national team started slowly going down in the first two sets 24-26, 23- 25 against Cameroon but rallied around to win 25-21 and 25-16 third and fourth respectively, thereby defeating the hard fighting Cameroonians 3-2
Speaking with journalists at the end of the match, coach of the Nigeria team, Enishanma Elam said his team underated the Cameroonians and were rattled by their early loses. He however expressed confidence that the boys will turn around better performance when they file out against Rwanda later today.
“We did not come to lose, but somehow the two first set came unexpected but we have to come from behind to take the last three sets
“I know we are going to win. We underrated the Cameroon team, but before we came for the championship we have be sounding this to players that there is no team to underrate, but thank God we won.
“The Nigerian fans are wonderful unlike the previous one we have been seeing when a Nigerian team is losing the fans will be disappearing from the stadium, but as far as this championship is concerned; honestly, I give it to the fans,” the visibly excited coach said.
Adding that the coaching crew and the players will go back to the drawing board to fix the noticeable lapses as they tackle Rwanda in their second match today
Nigeria will take on Rwanda by 3pm today in the continuation of the 2018 U21 Boys Nations Cup. Nigeria is the host nation.
