The General Manager of Kaduna Inland Dry Port, Mr. Rotimi O. Raimi has said that the opportunity the port has created was to provide facility positioned for importers and exporters patronage to import direct and export from KIDP without any hindrances.
In his welcome address at the One day seminar jointly organised by the KIDP and Manufacturer Association of Nigeria, MAN to sensitize Stakeholders in Kaduna State said Nigeria is blessed with mineral resources across the land in our country, adding that we cannot continue to rely on oil produce as our major source of revenue.
“Kaduna state have the best quality of ginger in the world and there are so many crops and solid minerals product yet untapped, which are saddled with how to go about it for export.
“In the recent times, several seminars were organized by Nigerian Shippers Council or in collaboration with Inland
Containers Nigeria limited to sensitize the business community and farmers about the dry port, its importance in Kaduna and hinterland areas including the neighbouring countries like Niger, chad, Mali etc. which we believe it will enhance the economic and commercial activities, create wealth expansion and employment of our young graduates in various areas of economic development in Kaduna state and areas mentioned.
“Today, we are presenting a theme: ‘Optimizing Importation & exportation of Non-oil produce through Kaduna inland dry port’, our distinguished guest speakers are here to speak on issues relating to importation and exportation, the opportunity of the Kaduna inland dry port facility is positioned for your patronage to import direct and export from KIDP without any hindrances.
“Nigeria is blessed with mineral resources across the land in our country, we cannot continue to rely on oil produce as our major source of revenue. The KIDP platform is positioned to facilitate your export forwarding and import consignments,” he said.
Mr. Raimi said Kaduna Inland Dry Port has received over 4,000 cargo so far since he took charge of the port, adding that the presence of the dry port has further opened business opportunities in Kaduna state and as well reduced a lot of hardship to importers and exporters from the northern part of the country.
“If you look at the business profile of Kaduna State today, you will agree with me that the impact of the port here has been felt so much in terms revenue generation both locally and nationally. What we are doing today is to create awareness among the stakeholders because a lot of them do not know that we have something like this in Kad. I want to assure you that by this time next year, the story of Kaduna Inland Dry Port will surprise you because we are determined to make it a huge success, “ he said.
He acknowledged that the Port is currently going through some challenges, especially the rail tracks which is not functioning too well but assured that the federal government is addressing that issue.
