Private exporters recently reported Nigeria bought 205, 500 metric tons of wheat, of which 151, 500 is hard red winter with 131, 500 scheduled for delivery during the 2014/2015 marketing year and 20, 000 during the 2015/2016 marketing year. The remaining 54, 000 metric tonnes is soft red winter wheat with 44, 000 for delivery during the 2014/2015 marketing year and 10,000 in the 2015/2016 marketing year. This is the second daily wheat sale to Nigeria in July, 2014.
It bought 101,000 metric tons of wheat on Monday for 2014/2015 shipment. As of last week, it has bought 393,800 metric tons of 2014/2015 wheat, the fifth leading buyer behind Mexico Japan, South Korea and Brazil, according to The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) weekly report.
The marketing year for wheat began June 1. USDA issues both daily and weekly export sales reports to the public. Exporters are required to report to USDA any export sales activity of 100, 000 tonnes or more of one commodity, made in one day or quantities totalling 200, 000 tonnes or more in any reporting period, except 20,000 tons for soybean oil, made in one day to one destination or quantities totaling 40, 000 tonnes or more in any reporting period by the next business day.
