Niger residents endorse new urban policy

Nigerlites have appreciated the state government by coming up with a policy that will address problems confronting communities across the 25 local government areas.
The resident made this known to government officials during a town hall meeting in Suleja, aimed at sensitizing communities in preparation for the formulation of the state urban policy.
The Board Member of Nigeria Port Authority who is also a resident of Suleja, Alhaji Umaru Shuaibu, explained that issue of urban policy has been a challenge both at state and national level, saying bring the policy to limelight will address challenges of human settlement in the state.
According to him, city like Suleja is growing fast growing of it closeness to Abuja, majority workers working in Abuja live in Suleja and the population is growing fast, hence the need to have an urban policy.
Shuaibu added that the policy will serve as a guideline for the state government to run an inclusive government for human development based on the challenges identified by the local government areas.
The Emir of Suleja, Alhaji Awual Ibrahim, applauded the state government for the involvement of the people in preparing policy, noting that the policy will guide to government to execute people’s oriented projects.
In his remarks, the Programme Coordinator, Niger State Urban Policy, Prof. Zubairu Mustapha said the town hall meeting was for government to hear views, hope and aspirations of the people across the 25 local government areas, analyse them to have basis for drafting the policy.
