Niger Reps member claims he spent over N2 billion on projects

A member of House of Representative, representing Rijau, Magama Federal constituency of Niger state, Hon. Shehu Saleh Rijau, has claimed that so far he has spent over two billion naira on the constituency and ecological fund projects in his constituency.
This is even as he assured that he will complete some of the ongoing projects which he initiated by next year 2018.
The lawmaker made the disclosure in an interview yesterday at Rijau after his inspection tour of the ongoing projects which includes: drainages, bridges, culvert, roads, stadium and skills acquisition centres.
Hon. Saleh said that the projects were executed in Magama and Rijau Federal Constituency, adding that at aside Magama, others were in Ibeto, Auna and Salka to control erosion bedeviling the areas to the sum of N520 million.
The member hinted that in Rijau, he has completed N80 million women development centre, N630 million drainages and roads, N250 million Karu bridge, culverts and drainage, as well as at Dukku and Tunga- Magajiya respectively, while in the case of a stadium worth N78 million, 15% has been paid hence to influence the payment for its completion.
He however lamented over the deplorable state of road along Kontagora – Rijau which has been abandoned for years, noting that in 2016, about N500 million in the 2016 budget went into it, while in this year’s budget, N400 million has been earmarked for it but yet to be accessed. He promised to influence its release to commence work on the site.
The legislator who visited some traditional rulers in the state for blessings for his senatorial ambition, said his ambition was in response to the call by the people of the zone to contest for the 2019 elections as a senator representing the Niger North, considering his immense achievements.
He revealed that in the last two years, he has secured employment for about 40 youths in Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), awarded scholarship to ten beneficiaries to study in India, as well as medical services and many other interventions for his constituents.
In his remarks, Chairman of Rijau local government, Hon. Bello Bako, said that “I have had six House of Representative but they can’t match his achievements in his over two year tenure, we are proud of him and he deserves the support for Senate come 2019” he stated.
