The screening of Niger state nominees as commissioners was bedeviled by protest yesterday as the State Assembly begun the screening and confirmation of the list submitted to it by the Governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello.

In there letter addressed to the Governor of Niger State made available to newsmen was titled “Protest Letter Against the Nomination of Alhaji Danjuma Sallau to be Screened as Commissioner Representing Munya Local Government” objected the said person claiming that he is not an indigene of the area.
The letter which is signed by four of the group representatives gave reasons their rejection of the nominee that includes deliberate plan for the marginalization of 95% Gbagyis to the advantage of the 5% hausa and other tribes in the area as well lack of political balance in terms of its zones.
The letter submitted that for the following prayers that, if such nomination was not attempt to use vector power to forceful take over the Council from Gbagyis, the nomination be withdrawn and replaced with Gbagyi person.
It added that it has to make substitution in a way to ensure political balance hence the people however rallied round the Governor before, during and even after his election and should not be paid back in such way.
Leader of the protesters Comrade Danjuma Paiko while presenting their complaint to the Speaker Hon. Ahmed Marafa Guni said that the party requested to send three names which they did but non of those names were selected.
He confirmed to have sent letter of complaint to the Assembly before the names was returned to the Governor by the house and nothing was done about it.
Responding the Niger state Speaker, Hon. Ahmed Marafa explained that the first process was faulty noted that they have been heard but advised them to follow due process of the house by making their official complain through the constituency representative who will in turn do the needful.
Marafa assured them of doing what is appropriate by investigating the matter because that is what they are voted for while he appreciated their peaceful conduct.
The protesters were carrying placards with various descriptions like, We vote APC because we wanted good governance, Gbagyi Voice; enough of the marginalization, Sallau is not our choice give us our choice, Equity is what we asked for.
Investigation revealed that the same problem of rejection of nominees is not only if Munya but also in Agaie, Mashegu and Gurara local governments although the first name from Agaie has been replacement in the second submission.
