The Executive Chairman of Tafa Local Government Area in Niger State, Hon Ibrahim Mami, has said that herdsmen did not move about with guns in Tafa.
Mami, who stated this in an interview with newsmen while reacting to a report aired by Berekette family that herdsmen were moving about with guns and bicycles in Tafa Local Government Area.
His words : “ Somebody told me that Berekette family were debating on bandits around Tafa Local Government that some Fulani people were moving about in mass with guns and bicycles in Tafa, with the pressmen around me now, I debunked the information as not true.
“We know that everywhere in Nigeria today, we are facing the security challenges even in Tafa Local Government, but it has not come to that magnitude of such expression that was aired by Berekette family yesterday.
“ I know, for a week now, I have been seeing Fulani herdsmen even in my farm passing through the Tafa town. When I interviewed one of them personally they told me that they were coming from Sokoto axis to Bauchi axis for settlement. These Fulani herdsmen were moving with their children and cows and that it is the culture of Fulani herdsmen to migrate from one place to another. In fact, these Fulani herdsmen who passed through the Tafa town are not troublesome”.
The Chairman, however, called on Berekette family to contact the leadership of Tafa Local Government before airing out any information or report concerning the security situation of the council, and urged the people of Tafa to continue to pray for peaceful co- existence of the area.
Mami said he would continue to protect the lives and property of the citizens in the area, while charging the security agencies to continue with their good work.
