Niger govt conducts economic survey in 25 LGAs

The Niger state government in conjunction with the National Bureau of Statistics is to conduct an economic survey of all the 25 local government areas of the state following a recent re basing of the country’s Gross Domestic Product GDP.

To ensure the success of the project which will cost the government about N17m 500 enumeration centers with each local government having 25 of such centers have been established.

The Deputy Chairman of the state Planning Commission Alhaji Yahaya Dansalau who stated this yesterday in Minna said the state executive council has already approved the execution of the project which will commence immediately.

Alhaji Dansalau said parts of the areas to be covered by the survey are education, health economic status of people in the rural and urban areas of the state entrepreneurial skills of the people as well as poverty level of the people of the state.

The Deputy Chairman declared that the survey is ‘going to be the first socio economic survey in the state’ adding that ‘it is going to be scientifically done’.

‘It will revalidate what the National Bureau of Statistic has done’.

Alhaji Dan Salau who defended the project by saying that it will bring about evidenced based planning said it is necessary because it is 4 years that the National Bureau of Statistics embarked on such survey which was only based on the poverty level of the people in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal capital territory.
