The Youths Group under the auspices of Concerned Youths Forum and some key elders of PDP in Niger State have emphatically rejected the opinion of Guber zoning to Niger North (Zone C) Senatorial District for 2019 elections by the State Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party.
The leader and Chairman of the group, Dr Mohammed Bello disclosed this in a press briefing at the weekend in Minna, saying that the statement credited to the State Party Chairman, Barrister Tanko Beji in respect of zoning was his personal opinion contrary to party opinion at the national level.
He described the statement as “undemocratic, unconstitutional and not acceptable by the youths in the three geo political zones of the state and should be rejected by party members in the state” he said.
Bello alleged that the Chairman (Beji) was using his antics for his preferable candidate who is the former deputy Governor and serving Ambassador to South Africa, Hon. Ahmed Musa Ibeto, “It is Beji’s antics to further convince Ahmed Musa Ibeto who dumped the party to join APC in 2015 to come and contest for the governorship come 2019” he stated.
The PDP stalwart advised members of the party to reject the suggestion by Tanko Beji while considering the statement as a personal opinion that does not reflect the opinions of the party stakeholders in the state, however charged for its reversal.
He explained that it is a pre plan arrangement deliberately to allowed unpopular candidate to emerge which will surely ease the chances of the ruling APC to returned to power in 2019 and called for restraint.
Investigation revealed that the said meeting where the resolution of the party was reached had a divided opinion on the decision to zone the party ticket to Niger North as some key stakeholders rejected the idea hence the statement from Tanko Beji.
It could be recalled that the Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP last week resolved in an expanded cucos meeting that the zoning of the governorship seat to Niger North senatorial district (Zone C) for 2019 election is sacrosanct.
Consequently, the meeting was presided over by the State party Chairman Barrister Tanko Beji who declared that any other candidate from Niger South or East Senatorial Zone (Zone A or B) will not be supported by the party in the state.
