The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State has suffered yet another blow yesterday as the deputy governor, Hon. Ahmed Musa Ibeto officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Minna, the state capital after allegedly suffering injustices and humiliation from the ruling party.

Ibeto while addressing journalists in his residence said he has no option than to leave the party as all effort to redress the anomalies originating from the recently held PDP primaries failed.

“It is right we have decided to defect from the PDP to APC for obvious reasons, you know what happened in the state, there was a primary conducted by my former party which was not actually in accordance to the rules and regulations of the party, we make our position very clear hoping that the national secretariat will do something about it.

“We believed that there is no justice, no fair play in that party so therefore, it’s no longer the party we can belong to” Ibeto stated.

The deputy governor confirmed that over 200 members of the ruling PDP cutting across all the 25 local governments in the state also defected to the APC.

The decampees are made up of political appointees and elected members of both the national and state assembly members include former local government chairmen, councillors and ward executives.

While defending his decision to decamp, he said “You know in Nigeria, we have freedom of association, you can either belong to party A or B or C or remain nonpartisan, and it’s not anybody’s business”.

“I am going to APC rally, but first I am going to the airport to welcome our leader, General Muhammadu Buhari who is coming to Niger State for a political campaign” he said.

Ibeto intimated that he had decided to minimize the list of decampees to only those who currently hold position or formerly on positions in the PDP at local, state and national levels.

“I am a peace loving person and will not like to see crisis before, during and after the election because of my defection”.
