The Niger State House of Assembly has assured the citizens of carrying out a sustainable oversight function to ensure contracted projects meet its required standard specification to avoid being shortchanged by contractors handling works in the state.
Speaker of the state assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Bawa Wuse gave the warning while speaking newsman after the flagging off ceremony of Minna – Bida road 86 kilometers reconstruction project at Kpakungu, Minna the state capital.
Represented by member representing Lavun who is the House Committee Chairman on Works, Hon. Ndagi Jibrin Baba stated that the era of contractors surcharging the Niger state citizens is over just as the current lawmakers will not relent in carrying out its legislative mandate for ensuring that the right thing is done according to contractual specifications or face the wrath of the law.
The lawmaker assured of sustainable oversight function especially on the Multimillion Naira Minna, Kataeregi and Bida road project to ensure the durability of the work after its completion hence the project standard must be maintained.
He reiterated the commitment of the assembly for given its full support to the executive in the provision of dividend of democracy through its social amenities provision to the electorates.
While appreciating the Niger state government for the project on the reconstruction of Minna to Bida road awarded to Dantata and Sawoe at the sum of N23.9 billion to be completed within 18 months however urged for the cooperation, support and understanding of the benefiting communities and their leaders for a hitch free of the entire project.
