The All Progressive Congress (APC) has won twenty two chairmanship positions contested for in Niger State, leaving Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with one local government, while two local governments are still pending.
Announcing the results at Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC), the chairman, Alhaji Aminu Baba said that nine political parties participated in the just concluded local government elections.
He further disclosed that 85 candidates participated in the chairmanship, while 661 councelorship candidates also participated in all the 25 local government areas of the state.
Baba also said that Mashegu and Tara local governments were still pending, while six wards were declared inconclusive.
He however appreciated the peaceful conduct of the people throughout the exercise, most especially security agencies and the media for ensuring a violent free polls.
Consequently, governor Abubakar Sani Belli of Niger State however lost his polling unit and his Kontagora central ward to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the just concluded local government election.
The result of the election, which was held on Saturday 30th November, 2019 in the 25 local government areas of the state, indicated that Hon. Mallami Abdullahi of the PDP was declared winner of central ward where the governor comes from.
The Zonal Vice Chairman (Zone B) of PDP, Alhaji Yahaya Ability told our reporter that his party members defended their votes jealously to ensure their vote counted, hence the victory at the polls.
The following local governments were won by the APC, Bosso, Bida, Magama, Kontagora, Rafi, Suleja, Paikoro, Shiroro, Wushishi, Rijau, Edati, Katcha, Mokwa, Agaie, Mariga, Lavun, Lapai, Gurara, Munya, Agwara, Borgu, Chanchaga, while Gbako local government was won by the PDP.
