From Yakubu Mustapha, Minna
The Niger State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Engr Mohammed Jibrin Imam has refuted a publication in a National Newspaper (not Peoples Daily) of defection of their members to Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, saying that it was an opposition propaganda to gain cheap publicity.
He made the disclosure yesterday during a press briefing at the party’s secretariat; adding that none of the APC registered members defected to Peoples Democratic Party in Mashegu local government, as alleged.
Imam stressed that the ruling APC has achieved tremendous success in terms of
settling backlog of local councils salaries and pension inherited from last administration, security, infrastructure development, education, as well as health sector and the economy.
He attributed the PDP propaganda to the loss of their track for progress,
hence had developed the gimmick of defective propaganda that could not take
them anywhere because APC is deeply rooted in the grassroots, as it has over 40,000 polling units executives who are being taken care of to mobilize people at those levels.
The Chairman urged the opposition PDP, which had reigned for 16 years, to learn
how to be patient and plan strategic opposition, not embarking on cheap propaganda that cannot give them single vote.
He added that the APC is strengthened by its solid votes from the polling units that the PDP lacked.
Blaming the state woes to the wasteful mismanagement of about N125 billion, aside IGR during the 8 years of the immediate past administration of former governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu, the APC state chairman demanded for constructive and specific criticisms from the PDP not a generalized one without verification.
Imam, however, hinted that the party has begun empowerment of APC members at
the grassroots levels by distributing vehicles.
He said that the real defection of PDP members to the APC will soon start and the defectors will be received by the party; and they will be issued with memberships cards and the party would manage its success to its advantage in the state.
Meanwhile, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has read riot act to the newly inaugurated state executive members warning and urging them to be up and doing in discharging their responsibilities or be shown the way out.
