A Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) known as Nka Nto Annang Foundation (NNAF) Incorporation has concluded all arrangements for its second edition of reactivation of the age long culture of Annang ethnic nationality of Akwa-ibom state.
The epic event known as Festival of Arts and Culture (AFAC) 2017 have Our Culture, Our Pride as theme.
This latest development was made known to the press at the weekend by the NGO’s President, Ephraim Okon while seeking the support of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) at the headquarters of the Corporation in Abuja.
In explanation, the President said the reason why his Foundation had gone into the project was to promote rich cultural heritage of his people; explore and sell it to the world so as to make Annang land a tourism destination. He added that he wanted assist government by bringing his people together to appreciate their culture, adding they will promote cultures that are not repugnant to natural justice, equity and good conscience. Foreign ambassadors, according to him shall be there to represent their countries.
Inviting other ethnic nationalities to come and showcase their cultures during the festival, Ephraim Okon said that the event would enhance economy of the people of Annang land through attraction of foreign investment; creation of jobs; and exposure to the world in terms of richness in arts and culture. Others were outburst of tourism infrastructure; packaging tour experience to the area by tourism operators; and revenue generation through the sales of arts and crafts.
Earlier in a welcome address, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the Corporation, Vincent Arua who represented the Director-General, Folorunsho Coker commended the Foundation for the giant stride and promised the Corporation’s full support, adding that such venture will go a long way toward promotion of domestic tourism as one of the focuses of the Corporation.
