The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) elections committee has commenced work in preparation for scheduled election on Saturday, 29th September 2018 in Katsina state.
Chairman of the committee, Barrister Mohammed SaniKatu told thenff.com over the weekend that numbers have held meeting already with the objective of ensuring adequate preparedness of the panel for the task at hand.
He added that the guidelines and timelines would soon be rolled out in line with the provisions of the NFF Electoral Code.
Katu stressed that members of the committee are committed to ensure the best ever NFF election in line with established electoral laws and guidelines.
“We have started our work, with a number of meetings. The committee is committed to do its work fully in line with the dictates of the Electoral Code and to ensure the best –ever NFF elections come September.
“It is a huge responsibility is saddled with but we are very much equal to the task and we will ensure that we stage elections that the winners and the losers would be happy about,” the electoral Committee Chairman said.
The NFF General Assembly in October 2017 approved Katsina as the venue for the election with 30th September 2018 as the initial date.
The NFF Congress alsoadopted a motion to the effect that future Elective Congresses be moved away from the FIFA World Cup year. This was to guarantee stability in the system to prepare the National team for credible participation at the World Cup finals and to avoid the distractions and crises usually associated with the World Cup year.
The General Assembly approved Katsina as venue for the next NFF Elective Congress. The date for election was initially fixed as 30th September 2018.
Similarly, the congress composed new NFF Electoral and NFF Electoral Appeal Committees to plan the 2018 elections as well as hear complaints from candidates arising from the election, respectively.
The eight-man Electoral Committee headed by Barr. Mohammed SaniKatu has other members such as; Mr. SaniSalawu; Barr. S.C.A. Umeha; Barr.OlusolaOke; Mr. Mohammed Manzo; Dr. Mohammed Sanusi (Secretary). Standby: Hon. IsongIsang; Barr. Mohammed AliyuSambo.
A. U. Mustapha (Senior Advocate of Nigeria), who is also President of the CAF Appeals Panel, heads the NFF Electoral Appeals Committee, with Mr. MojeedAdegbindin and Barrister Gbwen Alex Gbejule as members, and NFF Head of Legal Unit, Barrister Okey Obi, as secretary.
Standby members are Sir Emma Ochiagha and Barrister Mohammed Zanna Mala.
The members of the NFF Electoral Committee and the NFF Electoral Appeals Committee for the forthcoming elections were elected at the NFF General Assembly held in Jos, Plateau State on Thursday, 19th October 2017.
