The immediate past Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai (IBBUL), Professor Muhammad Nasir Maiturare has formally handed over the mantle of leadership to Professor Abu Kasimu Adamu as the new head of the Institution after his single term of five years.
Prof. Maiturare while speaking on his stewardship at a well-attended handing over ceremony held at the University’s Senate Chamber, said that his administration was able to attract infrastructural projects and research grants worth several billions of naira to the Institution from corporate organisations within and outside the country.
He explained that the basic foundation projects to kick-start the Medical College at the University were almost being completed; adding that construction of over half a billion naira Geological Laboratory endowed Professorial Chair on Basinal Studies as well as the construction of multi-million naira perimeter fencing of the entire university by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) were at various stages of completion.
Professor Maiturare further disclosed that a number of collaborations and partnerships that his administration initiated with some reputable national and international Institutions on critical research areas were already yielding positive results to the University.
The former Vice-Chancellor pointed out that the ultra- model E-learning Centre was recently commissioned to enhance computer-based study programmes of the University; stressing that two successful convocation ceremonies have been held, where notable personalities who contributed immensely to humanity were recognised with Honorary Degrees and Fellowship of the University.
He maintained that as a result of concerted efforts made by his Management to put in place enabling environment for learning, the University has witnessed a tremendous growth in both students population and quality academic staff.
Prof. Maiturare however appreciated the level of unwavering support and cooperation his administration enjoyed from the Niger State Government under the leadership of Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, Council, Management, entire staff and students of the University and appealed for same gesture to the new Vice-Chancellor.
Response after taking over the leadership as the new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abu Kasimu Adamu commended his predecessor for taking the University to enviable height.
He assured to work assiduously towards consolidating the feat attained by his predecessor and also initiate more development and research efforts that would accelerate the realisation of excellent Vision of the University.
The Vice- Chancellor called for greater support and cooperation from staff, students and other critical stakeholders of the University to enable him succeed.
