The Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN), an NGO, yesterday said it would observe this year’s Global Candlelight Memorial in honour of deceased people “who died of HIV/AIDS related circumstances’’.
The National Coordinator of the organisation, Mr. Edward Ogenyi, said this in a statement issued in Abuja.
The statement said the event would hold on Sept. 25, at Ibeto Hotel, Gudu District, FCT.
It said the event would enable the network respond to global and national issues affecting the HIV/AIDS.
The statement said that the Country Director of UNAID was expected to speak on “Post 2015 agenda: Ending AIDS by 2030″.
The Director-General of NACA, Prof. John Idoko, alongside other experts and academics are also expected to feature at the occasion.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Federal Government, in partnership with state governments, has recorded huge success in beating back the scourge of HIV and AIDS, through effective sensitization campaigns and funding.
The success recorded was as a result of the donor agencies’ commitment in fighting the disease and timely release of counterpart funding by states across the country.
The fall in the prevalence rate of the disease in the country had been attributed to the resolve of more people coming out to declare their HIV and AIDS status.. (NAN)
