North East Development Commission( NEDC) has donated starter packs as part of its contribution to support de-radicalizaton and rehabilitation of repentant Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa members.
Donating the items at DRR camp Operation Safe Corridor at the weekend at Mallam Sidi, the Managing Director and Chief Executive officer (CEO) North East Development Commission Mohammed Goni Alkali who was represented by the Head of corporate services Mr. Abba Musa said the donation was made to support de-radicalized and rehabilitated repentant of Boko Haram members that laid down their arms to embrace peace.
According to him, the training which includes tailoring, welding, shoe making, carpentry and barbing, the starter pack items were distributed to 601 repentant Boko Haram members.
While calling on them to utilize the items distributed judiciously, he said the items will serve as mean of their livelihood.
Speaking at the event, the minister Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Services, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruq who was represented by Nadiya Mohammed emphasized the need of trained and retraining the repentant of Boko Haram members who willingly surrender themselves for peace as a good initiative perform by President Muhammadu Buhari.
She called on them to be resolute in their day to day activities while leaving the camp.
On his part, the coordinator Operation Safe Corridor Maj-Gen BM Shafa at the graduation ceremony said 601 repentant Boko Haram members including foreign nationals were trained in skills acquisition programme.
Gombe state governor Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya who was represented by the deputy governor Manassah Daniel Jatau encourage the graduants as they leave the camp, to reunite with their families let them be ambassador of change to the society.
He promised that government will continue to work harmoniously with operation safe corridor to actualize the dream of the camp.
