National Examinations Council (NECO) has released its time table for the conduct of 2020 examinations for Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) begins from Monday 5th October, to Wednesday 18th November, 2020.
The Registrar/ Chief Executive, Professor Godswil Obiama made the disclosure yesterday in a press conference at NECO headquarters in Minna, saying that Basic Education Certificate Examination BECE will start on Monday 24th August to Monday 7th September 2020 and further compressed it to terminate on 4th September, 2020.
He revealed that NECO has taken into cognisance other examination bodies to avoid conflicts noted that its National Common Entrance Examination NCEE for JSS1 students into Federal Unity Colleges was slated for 17th October, 2020.
Prof. Obiama explained that manual on the guidelines for the conduct of the 2020 NECO Examination in this Covid -19 was also unveiled to ensure a hitch free exams.
He stated that the guidelines cover roles, responsibility and expectations of various stakeholders that include; school proprietors, principals, managers, parents/guardians, exam candidates, supervisors, invigilators, exam monitors and security officials the covered critical issues and Covid -19 protocols.
He pointed out that the council has zero tolerance for examination malpractices and is considering special CCTV cameras for all its exam centers in the future charging on candidates to be hard working and avoid cheating temptation.
Obiama said that some measures were put in place to ensure the credibility and standard during and after its exams to include; daily distribution of sensitive materials, biometric capturing of candidates and customized answer booklets as well as deployment of security to exam centres, most importantly examination officials are now mandatorily required to sign an Oath of Allegiance in preparation for their respective roles and responsibilities.
He disclosed that a total of 343,595 candidates has registered for the three examination thus far, adding that the registration is still opened for candidates who are interested.
The statistics revealed that SSCE has 169,144 candidates, BECE has 104, 341 candidates and NCEE has 80,110 candidates.
