The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Malam Aminu Kano International Airport Command (MAKIA) on Friday arrested a 43 year, Aneke Afamuefuna lnnocent, with 19.5kg substance suspected to cocaine, valued at over N200million.
Speaking to newsmen in his office yesterday, the Commander of the Agency at airport Mr. Ambrose Umoru, said that the drug suspect was nabbed during a routine inward screening of passengers of an Ethiopian airline flight no.931 on Friday, were Aneke Innocent, who hails from Enugu state, had neatly concealed the high grade pure cocaine in several HP Laser jet printing toners, which were sealed in a factory to avoid detection.
According to him, the suspect had boarded an Ethiopian airline flight in Caracas/Venezuela via Sao Poalo, Brazil enroute Adis Ababa/Ethiopia via Kano, Nigeria where the suspect had arranged with his drug gang in Venezuela for onward transmission to one of the Nigerian representative, here in Kano airport for subsequent distribution of the drug before he was nabbed.
Umar said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect’s Nigerian collaborator was actually in the airport to receive him on arrival, but took to his heels on sighting the arrest of the suspect by eagle eye operatives of the Command.
He said that the suspect is still under investigation and would be charged to the Federal High court.
In an interview with newsmen the suspect Aneke said “My friend abroad that pushed me to what I did not know, by giving me this dangerous drug to deliver to a person in Kano, without me knowing the content of what I was billed to deliver, has pushed me into this trouble.
Continuing, he added: ” I have three children, because of my plight that am going through, he has used me to commit this crime, just for $5,000. It is quiet unrealistic of a friend who said he wanted to help me out of my problem.
