The Niger state National Directorate of Employment NDE, has commenced the training of 299 unemployed candidates comprising youths and women on cosmetology and other skills to be self-reliant.
The Director General of the Agency, Dr Nasir Ladan Argungu made the disclosure yesterday in Minna in an interview after the flag off of the scheme at the state capital.
Ladan Argungu said that 80% of the participants will be offered with starter pack at the end of the training which includes: GSM repairs,
tailoring, barbing, soap making as well as shoes and bag making for the duration of three months while that of cosmetology will be for two weeks.
The DG stated that the beneficiaries were selected from the 25 local government areas of the state who are unemployed Nigerlites to be given a stipends to argument their transportation.
According to him, the scheme is to ensure immediate skill acquisition of youths within a short period of time to earn leaving in areas needed in the society.
Represented by the Head of Department (HOD) of Vocational Skill Development VSD, Malam Nasir Mohammed who urged the participants to show maximum interest in acquiring the knowledge to their benefit and that of their families and society.
He added that the Programme and activities of NDE has created competition in the Nigerian market hence has stabilized market price and discouraged monopoly of manufactured goods by the multi- national organizations.
