The National Directorate of Employment, NDE in Benue State has commenced the training of over 286 unemployed persons in various vocational skills acquisition programs.
The program, according to a press release signed by Information Officer of the Directorate, Mr. Francis Kwaghga which was made available to Peoplesdaily yesterday, said it is under the additional 10,767 training of unemployed persons nationwide in the phase 2 of the Mega Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme(BNOAS).
State Coordinator of NDE Engr. Cheen Chia said at the flag off of the one day orientation course held at Vandeikya Central Primary School that skills acquisition remains the core thrust of the job generation program of the Directorate.
Chia lauded the efforts of Director General of NDE Dr. Ladan Nasir Mohammed and his management team for their rapid response to tackle unemployment in the country which has resulted in the recruitment and training of additional 10,767 unemployed persons nationwide.
He urged the participants to show commitment to the training opportunity created by NDE, stressing that they have put in place a reward mechanism for committed trainees on successful completion of their training.
The State Director solicited the collaboration of individuals, corporate, faith based organizations as well as government agencies towards eradication of poverty through job creation.
A collaborator of NDE Gen. India Garba (rtd) appreciated the Buhari administration for creating an enabling environment for youth empowerment in the country.
He charged the participants to show a sense of dedication to the training and not to despise a humble beginning, maintaining that the training will help them become managers of their own businesses and subsequently, they would establish cottage industries as is the case in climes like India and China.
It should be noted that 186 participants are trained in Cosmetology for two (2) weeks representing 70% while 82 are trained in other skill-sets like hairdressing and fashion design for three(3) months representing 30%.
